Response

TA returns location range supported by the current storage, the maximum length of <number> field, supported number formats of the storage and the maximum length of <text> field.

Note: The length may not be available while SIM storage is selected. If storage does not offer format information, the format list should be empty parenthe- sises.

This command writes a phonebook entry to the memory location <index> of the active memory.

The memory location number <index> is followed by the phone number <num- ber> (in the format <type>) and the associated <text>.

If writing fails, an ME error +CME ERROR: <err> is returned.

<index> Location number within phonebook memory, total range is given in test command response

<number> Phone number, maximum length is given as <nlength> in test command response

<type> Type of phone number (address octet in integer format); 145 when dialling string includes international access code character “+”, otherwise 129 (refer GSM 04.08 subclause 10.5.4.7)

<text> Text assigned to the phone number, maximum length is given in test command response <tlength>. Character set as specified with +CSCS. See note below.

<nlength> Max. length of phone number, normally 20, for a small number of locations 40

<tlength> Max. length of text assigned to phone number (depending on storage type 16 - 18 characters including blanks)

To delete a phonebook entry simply enter the location number: AT+CPBW=<index>

To write a phonebook entry to the first free location number:

AT+CPBW=,<number>,<type>,<text>

Note

If <text> contains characters which are coded differently in ASCII and GSM (e.g. Ä, Ö, Ü), these characters have to be entered via escape sequences as described in chapter “Supported character sets“, pg. 12.
