4:3 Letterbox: Select when a standard 4:3TV is
connected.
Displays theatrical images with
masking bars above and below the
picture.
4:3 Normal: Select when astandard 4:3 TV is

Displays pictures cropped to fill
your TV screen. Either or both
sides of the picture are cut off.
16:9 Widescreen: Select when a 16:9 wide TVis
connected.
16:9 Shrink: Select when a 16:9 wide
progressive TV is connected and it
cannot fit 4:3 video signal
automatically to its 16:9 screen.
Displays 4:3 pictures of the
progressive video signal in the
correct ratio with masking bars to
the left and right ofthe picture.
Notes
The displayable picture size is preset on the DVD
video disc. Therefore, the playback picture of some
DVD video discs may not conform to the picture size
you select.
• If you select "I6:9 Widescreen" and you own a 4:3 TV
set, the DVD playback picture will be horizontally
distorted during playback. Images will appear tobe
horizontally compressed. Always be sure that your TV
shape conforms to the actual TV inuse.

Press PROGRESSIVE onthe remote
control toswitch the output signal for

Note
When "Enable" is set and you select the progressive
output signal, no video signals are output from the
VIDEO OUT jack and the SVIDEO OUT jack.
There are two types ofsource content in pictures
recorded in DVD video discs: film content (pictures
recorded from films at 24 frames per second) and
video content (video signals recorded at 30frames
per second). Make this selection according to the
type of content being viewed.
Auto: Select this position normally.
The DVD video player automatically detects
source content, film or video, of playback
source, and converts that signal to the
progressive output format in an appropriate
method.
Video: The DVD video playerfilters video signal, and
converts it to the progressive output format
appropriately.
Suitable for playback ofvideo content
pictures.
Film: The DVDvideo player converts film content
pictures to the progressive output format
appropriately.
Suitable for playback offilm content pictures.
The progressive output feature will be most
effective under this selection.
