Your First Fire
Read these instructions carefully and familiarize yourself with the burner controls of this heater.
The Radiance uses a Honeywell control valve that allows thermostatic regulation. A separate Piezo ignitor generates a spark at the pilot orifice when the button is pushed. Figures 26 - 30 illustrate the operating positions for the RUVS40 controls.
Set the
During the first fire, it is not unusual to smell some odor associated with new logs, paint and metal being heated. Odors should dissipate within a few hours or so, however, you can open a window to provide plenty of fresh air to alleviate this condition.

Vermont Castings Radiance
Pilot and Burner Inspection
Each time you light your Radiance, check that the pilot flame and burner flame pattern appear as in Figures 31 and 33. If flame patterns are incorrect, turn the heater off and use the procedures in the Troubleshooting section of this manual to determing a solution. Do not operate the heater until the pilot flame is correct.
Follow regular maintenance procedures as de- scribed on page 17.
