NOTICE

Before tilting the outboard motor, stop the engine by following the procedure on page 35. Never tilt the outboard mo- tor while the engine is running. Severe damage from overheating can result.

Do not tilt up the engine by pushing the tiller handle (if equipped) because this could break the handle.

Procedure for tilting up (manual tilt models)

1.Place the gear shift lever in neutral.

2.Disconnect the fuel line from the out- board motor.

3.Place the tilt lock lever (if equipped) in the release/up position.

4.Pull up the shallow water lever (if equipped).

5.Hold the rear of the top cowling with one hand and tilt the engine up fully.

6.Push the tilt support knob into the clamp bracket. Or the tilt support bar will turn to the lock position automatically. NOTICE:

Do not use the tilt support lever or knob when trailering the boat. The out- board motor could shake loose from the tilt support and fall. If the motor cannot be trailered in the normal run- ning position, use an additional sup- port device to secure it in the tilt position. For more detailed informa- tion, see page 41. [ECM01641]

1.Place the tilt lock lever in the re- lease/down position or return the shallow water lever to its original position.
