Open system authentication
An 802.11 wireless LAN authentication method. Open System does not exchange any key or other information, it is a simple request by the mobile station to be authen- ticated without verifying identity.
PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet)
A method of allowing the authentication protocol adopted in telephone line connection (PPP) to be used over an Ethernet.
Protocol
A procedure or rule of delivering data among computers. Ordered data communication is allowed by making all conditions required for communication including the method of data transmission/reception and actions upon communication errors into proce- dures.
Shared key authentication
An 802.11 wireless LAN authentication method. When a client attempts to associate to an access point, the access point will send a challenge to the client. The client encrypts the challenge with the network key and sends it back to the access point. If the access point can decrypt the challenge, then authentication has succeeded.
