Welcome to the 2E253-49R SmartSwitch 2200 Installation User’s Guide. This guide describes the 2E253-49R SmartSwitch 2200 device and provides information concerning network requirements, installation, and troubleshooting. For information about how to use Local Management to configure and manage the 2E253-49R, refer to the Cabletron Systems SmartSwitch Series 2E253, 2H252, 2H253, and 2H258 Local Management User’s Guide.

Depending on the firmware version used in the 2E253-49R, some features described in this document may not be supported. Refer to the Release Notes shipped with the 2E253-49R to determine which features are supported.

Read through this part of the guide first for information on how to use this guide and for a list of technology and user’s guides that may help in setting up and managing the 2E253-49R. Then read the remainder of this guide completely to understand the 2E253-49R capabilities and how to install it.

A general working knowledge of Ethernet and IEEE 802.3 type data communications networks and their physical layer components is helpful when using this device.
