1.0Introduction

This manual describes the functional, mechanical and interface specifications for the following Seagate Momentus® 7200 FDE.1 SATA model drives:

ST9320424AS	ST9320424ASG (includes Free Fall Sensor)
ST9250424AS	ST9250424ASG (includes Free Fall Sensor)
ST9160414AS	ST9160414ASG (includes Free Fall Sensor)
ST9120414AS	ST9120414ASG (includes Free Fall Sensor)
	ST980414ASG (includes Free Fall Sensor)

These drives provide the following key features:

•DriveTrust technology including:

•Hardware-based Full Disc Encryption (FDE)

•DriveTrust security interface and ATA security interface

•Integrates with standard security software packages to provide features such as: Pre-boot authentica- tion and initialization using the drive’s secure partition and DriveTrust API

•Encryption key escrow.

•7,200-RPM spindle speed

•16-Mbyte buffer.

•Free Fall Protection (on ST9320424ASG, ST9250424ASG, ST9160414ASG, ST9120414ASG and ST980414ASG models only)

•Quiet operation. Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) motor.

•High instantaneous (burst) data transfer rates (up to 3 Gbits/sec).

•State-of-the-art cache and on-the-fly error-correction algorithms.

•Native Command Queuing (NCQ) with command ordering.

•Full-track multiple-sector transfer capability without local processor intervention.

•1,000 Gs nonoperating shock and 350 Gs operating shock.

•SeaTools™ diagnostic software performs a drive self-test that eliminates unnecessary drive returns.

•Support for S.M.A.R.T. drive monitoring and reporting.

•Support for Read Multiple and Write Multiple commands.

1.1System requirements

The following hardware and software is required to use these drives.

Host system requirements:

•Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (or later) when utilizing the Windows DriveTrust API.

•System/BIOS that supports ATA Security commands.
