RackSwitch G8000 Application Guide
VLAN Topologies and Design Considerations
By default, the G8000 software is configured so that tagging is disabled on all ports.
By default, the G8000 software is configured so that all ports are members of VLAN 1.
If you configure Spanning Tree, note that Spanning Tree Groups
VLAN configuration rules
VLANs operate according to specific configuration rules. When creating VLANs, consider the following rules that determine how the configured VLAN reacts in any network topology:
All ports involved in trunking and port mirroring must have the same VLAN configura- tion. If a port is on a trunk with a mirroring port, the VLAN configuration cannot be changed. For more information trunk groups, see “Port Trunking Example” on page 67.
All ports that are involved in port mirroring must have memberships in the same VLANs. If a port is configured for port mirroring, the port’s VLAN membership cannot be changed. For more information on configuring port mirroring, see “Monitoring Ports” on page 140.
