Installing the cooling shroud

Prerequisites

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.

NOTE: You must remove the cooling shroud to service other components inside the system.

1.Ensure that you read the Safety instructions.

2.Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.

3.Ensure that the cooling shroud is removed. See Removing the cooling shroud.

Steps

Lower the cooling shroud into the chassis until it is firmly seated.

Processor/DIMM blank

CAUTION: If you are permanently removing a processor, you must install a socket protective cap and a processor blank/DIMM blank in the vacant socket to ensure proper system cooling. The processor/DIMM blank covers the vacant sockets for the DIMMs and the processor.

Removing a processor/DIMM blank

Hold the processor/DIMM blank by its edges and lift it away from the system.
