Chapter 6: Measure Cable Performance

Measure Cable Performance lets you run individual tests such as NEXT, Attenuation, Length/Delay, Impedance, Loop Resistance, Capacitance, Impulse Noise and Peak to Peak Noise.

Press the Measure Cable Performance key to display a list of the tests to run.

Press the or arrow key to highlight the test you want to run, then press Select (F1) to run the highlighted test.

Press the ESCAPE key to return to the Ready screen.

See Chapter 3: Autotest for more information on test results for UTP cable.

See Appendix D: Working with Coaxial Cable for information on test results for coaxial cable.

NEXT

To display this screen, press the Measure Cable Performance key, then select NEXT.

This screen displays the frequency sweep range and the worst case NEXT for each pair. When using the 2-Way Injector+ or 2Way Injector, the top line of the screen indicates if NEXT is being reported from the Scanner end (Penta) or the Injector end (Inj) of the link.

Press Graph (F1) to enter graphing mode.

Press Sweep (F2) to display the NEXT Sweep range and step criteria.

Press Pair (F3) to toggle through the available pair combinations.

When using the 2-Way Injector+ or 2Way Injector, press F4 to toggle between the NEXT results for the Injector end or the Scanner end of the link.

Press the ESCAPE key to return to the MEASURE CABLE PERFORMANCE screen.

NEXT Graph

To display this screen, press the Measure Cable Performance key, then select NEXT, then press

Graph (F1).

The top line of the screen displays the worst case NEXT and the frequency at which it occurred.

When using the 2-Way Injector+ or 2Way Injector, the second line of the screen indicates if NEXT is being reported for the Scanner (Penta) or Injector (Inj) end of the link.

Press Zoom (F1) to magnify the area of the graph around the cursor. The Zoom key can display 1x, 2x, 5x or 10x magnification.

Press Print (F2) to print the NEXT graph.

Press Test (F3) to rerun the NEXT test and display new data.

Press the ESCAPE key to return to the NEXT results screen.
