Chapter 6 – Batteries

The RamSan-210 is equipped with two redundant one-hour Lithium Ion batteries. The batteries are designed to support the RamSan’s operational modes. Specifically, if external power to the RamSan-210 is lost, the system will continue to function running on the internal batteries.

The batteries in the RamSan-210 are linked to the power supply units. In the event a power supply is removed or broken its attached battery will not work. The batteries are designed to provide power for the system in the event external power is lost, not in case both power supplies fail.

The RamSan-210 can be configured to run on battery power for up to fifteen minutes after external power is lost. The system default is to stay on for five minutes after power fails. Because the RamSan-210 uses a mirrored writes mode, the system only has to stay on for one minute in order to clear the disk buffer and disk cache. The amount of time that the RamSan-210 stays on line can be user defined from one to fifteen minutes. If power is restored within this time period, the system will stay online.
