To charge cells in the battery compartment L:
a) via a power adapter (not supplied) connected to a mains power socket:
1Insert the DC plug (barrel plug) of a suitable power adapter into the socket »DC 5V 0.5A« U on the voice recorder. Pay heed to the correct polarity of the DC plug. For this voice recorder, a suitable power adapter must have a positive polarity. Insert the plug of the power adapter into a mains power socket.

With many power adapters the polarity of the DC plug can be changed by replugging or reswitching. In a case of doubt, consult the operating handbook for the power adapter.
2Switch the voice recorder on by pressing the button »ON/OFF« A. In the dis-
play Q the symbol appears briefly; afterwards, the battery symbol blinks. As soon as the charging process begins, the battery symbol fills and empties itself continually. Should the charging process be interrupted, for a few seconds a completely charged battery symbol is shown; subsequently it indi- cates again the actual charge condition of the inserted batteries.
3Ensure that the automatic
4When the inserted batteries are fully charged, the symbol is indicated in the display Q. Remove the power adapter from the mains power socket; re- move the DC plug of the power adapter from the socket »DC 5V 0.5A« U on the voice recorder.
b) via a USB cable connected to a PC:
1Should the voice recorder be connected to a mains power source via a power adapter: Remove the power adapter from the mains power socket before con- necting the voice recorder with a PC. Also remove the DC plug of the power adapter from the socket »DC 5V 0.5A« U.
2Switch the PC and the voice recorder on. If you do not, the voice recorder will switch over to PC operation and will be identified by the PC as a removable media. In PC operation cells are not charged in the battery compartment of the voice recorder. In PC operation, dictations from the voice recorder can be copied onto the PC; for this, see also chapter 10. »Copying dictation recording from the voice recorder to a PC«.
