6.5Internet Browser Settings

To use the WBM of the ELS, you must make the correct settings in the Internet browser. This section contains information about setting the Internet browsers listed in the following table and the Java Virtual Machines used. You can use this procedure as the basis for setting other Internet browser versions. The WBM of the ELS has been tested with these Internet browsers and Java Virtual Machines.

Browser

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6.0

Netscape 6.1 and 6.2

Java Virtual Machine Plugin

Sun Microsystems JRE with Plugin

1.3.0 and 1.3.1 and 1.4.0

Sun Microsystems JRE with Plugin

1.3.0 and 1.3.1

Note

The WBM of the ELS has been tested with certain combinations of browsers and Java Virtual Machines (JVM). Only the JVM supplied and installed with the product was tested with Netscape and the JVM from Sun Microsystems was tested with the Internet Explorer.

We recommend that you only use one of these combinations.

With newer versions, the interaction with the SIMATIC NET devices from the ESM/OSM family cannot be guaranteed. We therefore recommend that you use JVM V1.3.1.

JVM V1.3.1 is included on the CD accompanying the product.
