The remote control may already be set to operate your VCR. Try this initial check to see whether it will be necessary to “identify” your VCR.

VCR/DVD

(1) Point the remote towards the VCR and press POWER .

(2) Does the remote turn the VCR ON and OFF?

If yes, the remote is ready to operate the VCR and no further steps are needed.

If no, continue to the “identify” section.

To Identify Your VCR – Direct Entry Method.

Use the following steps and the list (on page 65) to quickly find the remote control code for your VCR.

• First look up your VCR’s remote control code number (on page 65) before continuing the direct code entry steps.

lights for two seconds and then goes out. This indicates that the setting is performed successflly.

The remote control is now ready to send commands to your VCR.

Some brands have more than one remote code listed, due to changes in the remote codes from early to later model years, or due to format differences (VHS/BETA). In such cases, you may have to try more than one code to find the code your VCR accepts.

Depending on the model, year produced, brand, and type of VCR, some models

Note

may not be compatible with the remote control.

Tips on Identifying your VCR through the Search method

DISPLAY

(1) While pointing the front part of the remote control towards the infrared sensor of the VCR, press

and then

and hold them down for up to two minutes. Be careful not to let the VCR scan more than

five channels when the indicator starts to increase. If you continue to hold down the buttons after five channel scans, the proper remote code can be passed up and the two-minute cycle will have to be repeated.

• The remote control then searches in order for the VCR Brand Code Number (listed on page 65).

(2) At the instant when the VCR channel changes, release

DISPLAY

and the procedure will be

and

completed. If a channel change does not occur on the VCR within two minutes, read the identifying instructions again and repeat the steps. Should a channel change still not occur, the remote will most likely not operate your VCR.
