Glossary and Acronyms

APG	Advanced Program Guide™ the DIRECTV electronic program guide.
ATSC	Advanced Television Systems Committee. Standardization body that developed the
	Digital Television Terrestrial formats.
CAM	Conditional access module, usually referred to as the access card. A removable,
	electronic subassembly providing conditional access control of the subscriber
	terminal.
CSR	Customer Service Representative
DIRECTV	DIRECTV is a registered trademark of DIRECTV, Inc., a unit of Hughes Electronics
	Corporation.
DST	Daylight Saving Time
DTV	Digital Television
IPPV	Impulse pay per view. A method for ordering service on “impulse” where payments are
	required for each program or special event independently.
LNB	Low Noise Block downconverter. Portion of ODU that receives the satellite signal and
	converts the signal into L-band frequency of 950-1450 MHz.
MPAA	Motion Picture Association of America. Guild governing rating assignments to movies.
NTSC	National Television Systems Committee. Standardization body that developed the
	Analog Television Terrestrial formats.
ODU	Outdoor Satellite Dish Unit. The System that provides signal reception and down
	conversion.
OPPV	Order Ahead pay per view. Movie purchases placed by calling a customer service
	representative rather than using the on-screen displays. Necessary to purchase
	movies when the subscriber does not connect the phone to the Digital Satellite
	Receiver.
