APPENDIX 3. –The ARP function

Setting the IP Address

The Ethernet interface on the IP Camera has a default IP address (192.168.1.168) that most likely needs to be changed to make it work on your local network. You need to acquire a unique IP address (ask your network administrator). For the initial setting of the IP address the IP Camera needs to be connected to the same network segment as your client, and the IP address can then be configured by using a combination of ARP and ping command.

Use any of the following ways to set the IP address within thirty seconds after booting the IP Camera (re-cycle the power). Setting IP using the method below can only be done on the Ethernet interface.

ARP and ping from Windows or MS-DOS:

The user can open the PC's MS-DOS windows from the WINDOWS 98 operation system, or open the PC's Command Prompt windows from either the WINDOWS 2000 or the WINDOWS XP operation system.

1.Start a DOS prompt window

2.Type the following in 30 seconds after the booting: arp -s <IP address> <Ethernet address>

[or arp -s <IP address> < MAC address>] ping <IP address>

Example:

arp -s 192.168.1.100 00-0C-0C-00-00-01 ping 192.168.1.100

The IP address now is: 192.168.1.100.
