07 Playing Video CDs

Watching a Video CD

These are the basic steps necessary to play a Video CD with your DVD player. More ad- vanced Video CD operation is explained start- ing on page 26.

1To select a desired disc press one of the 1–6 buttons on the DVD player.

Playback starts.

# The indicator of selectable disc holders light in blue. If a disc is not inserted, you cannot select

that disc holder.

# Each of the disc holders has corresponding indicator. About the indicator status, refer to

Loading a disc on page 15.

# With a Video CD featuring the PBC (playback

control) function, a menu is displayed.

# You can also select a disc by pressing aor b

(DISC).

# This unit does not automatically change discs even if it reaches to the end of the currently play- ing disc. To change discs, press one of the 1–6 buttons on the DVD player or a/b(DISC).

2To skip back or forward to another track, press oor p.

Pressing pskips to the start of the next track. Pressing o once skips to the start of the current track. Pressing it again will skip to

the previous track.

# During PBC playback, a menu may be dis- played if you perform these operations.

3To perform fast forward or reverse, press and hold m or n.

If you continue pressing m or nfor five seconds, the color of the icon m/n changes from white to blue. When this hap- pens, fast reverse/fast forward continues even if you release m or n. To resume playback

at a desired point, press f.

# Fast forward/fast reverse may not be possible at certain locations on some discs. If this hap- pens, normal playback automatically resumes.

#There is no sound on fast forward or re- verse.

PBC playback

With Video CDs featuring PBC (playback con- trol) function, you can operate a menu.

%When PBC menu is displayed, press

0–10 corresponding to a menu number to start playback.

!To select 3, press 3.

!To select 10, press 1 and 0 in order.

!To select 23, press 2 and 3 in order.

To jump 10 tracks ahead of the selected one, press 10.

#Pressing C cancels the input number.

#You can display the menu by touching RETURN during PBC playback. For details, refer to the instructions provided with the disc.

#Depending on the discs, the menu may be

two or more pages long. In such case, touch o or pto display the next or previous menu. Once you confirm a desired menu number, press 0–10 to make the selection.

#Operation with the joystick is not possible.

Notes

!PBC playback of Video-CD cannot be can- celled.

!During playback of Video CDs featuring PBC (Playback Control), search and time search

functions cannot be used nor can you select the range for repeat play.
