Using the timers

The play/record timer

You can set the timer to come on at a certain time to wake you up (play timer) or to record a radio station or from the external source (record timer). The play and record timers cannot be used together.

Preparation

Turn the unit on and set the clock (Setting the time, page 13).

For the play timer, prepare the desired music source (cassette, CD, radio, external or USB) and set the volume.

For the record timer, check the cassette’s erasure prevention tabs (Erasure prevention, page 25) and insert the tape in the deck (Cassette tapes — Play and Recording, page 24) or plug in the USB (USB — Play and Recording, page 26). Tune to the radio station (The radio, page 24) or select the external source (Using the Music Port, page 31 and Using an external unit, page 32).

1Press [CLOCK/TIMER] to select the timer function. Every time you press the button:

CLOCK zPLAY zREC

Original display

zPLAY: to set the play timer

zREC: to set the record timer

2(Within 7 seconds or so) “ON” time

Press [u, 2/REW] or [i, 1/FF] to make the setting. Press [CLOCK/TIMER] to confirm.

“OFF” time

Repeat step and to make the setting.

3Press and hold [z, –PLAY/REC] to display the timer indicator.

zPLAY

zREC (USB REC, TAPE REC) (Off)

zPLAY: to turn the play timer on

zREC: to turn the record timer on

(The indicator does not appear if the “ON” and “OFF” times or the clock have not been set.)

4Press [^] to turn the unit off. The unit must be off for the timers to operate.

To change the settings

Do steps 1, 2 and 4. (above)

To change the source or volume

When the unit is on

1Press and hold [z, –PLAY/REC] to clear the timer indicator from the display.

2Make changes to the source or volume.

3 Do steps 3 to 4. (left)

To check the settings Press [CLOCK/TIMER] while the unit is on to select “zPLAY” or “zREC”. The settings are shown in the following order: Play timer: start time finish time source volume Record timer: start time finish time source

When the unit is off

1Press [CLOCK/TIMER].

2During the clock display, press [CLOCK/TIMER] again.

If you use the unit after the timers are set After using, check that the correct tape or disc is loaded or USB is inserted before turning the unit off.

To cancel the timer Press and hold [z, –PLAY/REC] to clear the timer indicator from the display.

Note

The play timer will start at the preset time with volume increasing gradually to preset level.

The record timer will start 30 seconds before the set time with the volume muted.

The timer comes on at the set time every day if the timer is on.

The unit must be in the standby mode for the timer to function.

If you turn the unit off and on again while a timer is functioning, the finish time setting will not be activated.

If MUSIC PORT or AUX is selected as the source when the timer comes on, the system turns on and engages MUSIC PORT or AUX as the source. If you wish to playback or record from the portable audio equipment, just activate the equipment’s play mode and increase the volume. (See the portable audio equipment’s instruction manual.)
