Sound field and sound quality

The following sound effects may not be available or have no effect depending on the type of source, or when microphone(s) or headphones are inserted, or karaoke function is on or play speed is on.

You may experience a reduction in sound quality when these sound field systems are used with some sources. If this occurs, turn the sound field system off.

Surround

Enjoy a surround-like effect when using front speakers. The effect broadens when playing discs with surround effects and sound seems to come from speakers on either side of you.

Press [SURROUND] (main unit: [SURROUND]).

Manual EQ

Create your own sound quality effects.

1Press [SOUND] to select “M.EQ”.

2Change the sound quality with the cursor buttons.

Select the sound range to be adjusted with [w] or [q].

BASS MID TREBLE

(Within 7 seconds or so)

Adjust the level with [u, 2/REW] or [i, 1/FF]. (–3 to +3)

Note

This does not work or has less effect with some discs.

Choose “STEREO” if it causes distortion.

Do not use in combination with surround effects on other equipment.

Changing the sound quality

Press [SOUND] to select a sound mode. Every time you press [SOUND] on the remote control:

Repeat step 2 to set the desired sound quality.

The original display is restored on the display panel in about 3 seconds.

On the main unit

1Press [MANUAL EQ].

MID TREBLE

“BASS” is selected and adjusted by turning [– BASS CONTROL +].

2Adjust the level for “MID” and “TREBLE” with [2/REW/u] or [1/FF/i].

The changes you make are stored and automatically recalled the next time you select “M.EQ”.

Enhancing the bass

You can enhance low-frequency sound so that heavy bass sound can be heard clearly, even if the acoustics of your room are not optimal. The unit automatically selects the most suitable setting according to the type of playback source.

Press [SOUND] to select “H.BASS” and press [q] to make selection: H. BASS ON H. BASS OFF

Pressing [H.BASS] on the main unit will also makes the “H.BASS”: H. BASS ON H. BASS OFF

Preset EQ

Press [SOUND] to select “EQ” and press [q] to make selection:

HEAVY

: Adds punch to rock.

CLEAR

: Clarifies higher sounds.

SOFT

: For background music.

EQ-OFF

: Canceled (no effect is added).

Adjusting the subwoofer

Press [SOUND] to select “SUBW LVL” and press [q] to make selection:

SUB W1 SUB W2

SUB W3

Pressing [SUBWOOFER] on the main unit also changes the setting.
