To add the ELAN to the adapter, use the elconfig add command.

Command syntax: The elconfig add command has the following syntax:

￿￿￿￿￿2￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿4￿2￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿4￿)￿￿￿￿￿+￿￿￿￿￿￿4￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿

ELAN is the Emulated LAN that you want the adapter to join.

interface is the logical network interface.

unit_number is the unit designator for the ATM adapter in the filer.

Example: The following command adds the adapter Unit 2 to the nineKMTU ELAN of type Ethernet, using interface el1:

￿￿'￿￿￿￿,￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿?￿)/￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿*+￿￿￿￿-￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿

Interpreting the output: This specific example assumes that the nineKMTU ELAN already exists on the switch. Also, if there is only a single ATM adapter in the filer, you do not need to specify the unit number in the command. The elconfig command sets it automatically.

The el1 interface refers to a logical interface, thereby enabling you to configure more than one logical interface for the same physical ATM adapter. This means that you can use the elconfig add command repeatedly to configure the filer to communicate over multiple ELANs using a single physical ATM adapter. Only Ethernet emulated networks are supported.

To add an ELAN to an adapter using FilerView, enter the elconfig command using Fil- erView’s command-line interface.

After the ATM adapter joins an ELAN, you need to assign an IP address to the logical network interface and configure additional parameters.

To configure a network interface, use the ifconfig command.

Command syntax: The ifconfig command has the following syntax:

￿￿'￿￿￿￿,￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿￿2￿%>￿￿￿￿￿￿￿+

interface is the name of the logical network interface.

address is the IP address associated with the interface.

mask is a dot notation Internet address that is selected according to the class of the IP address.
