La sierra alternativa puede utilizarse para hace cortes por penetración en material más blando (por ejemplo, en madera o materiales de construcción ligeros para paredes) sin tener que hacer un agujero de comienzo (Fig. 8).

1. Marque la línea que se va a cortar claramente sobre la pieza de trabajo.

2. Coloque la herramienta con un lado de la placa-base apoyado firmemente contra el material.

3. Coloque la punta de la hoja (sin estar en marcha) sobre la línea que se va a cortar.

4. Incline la sierra para que la hoja no toque la pieza de trabajo.

5. Apriete el interruptor gatillo y cuidadosamente haga que la hoja de sierra en movimiento vaya penetrando en el material.

6.Después de que la hoja haya atravesado la pieza de trabajo, continúe aserrando a lo largo del trazado marcado.

NOTAS:

Para facilitar la realización de cortes por penetración, utilice una hoja de calibre pesado, instale la hoja con los dientes orientados hacia arriba y sostenga la sierra en posición invertida de la manera que se muestra en la ilustración (Fig. 9).

No haga cortes por penetración en superficies metálicas.

En materiales gruesos y en materiales más duros, como metal, no debe intentarse hacer cortes por penetración. Dichos materiales pueden cortarse con la sierra alternativa solamente comenzando el corte desde el borde del material o desde un agujero hecho a través de todo el material que sea lo suficientemente grande como para acoplar la hoja de sierra.
