3If it is still hard to insert the brewing unit, leave it out of the appliance, close the service door, unplug the appliance from the mains, then plug in again.

Wait unitl the display has switched off, then open the service door and replace the brewing unit.

14.5Running the descaling program

The descaling program allows you to descale your coffee machine simply and effectively. The coffee machine must be descaled when you are

instructed to do so by the display showing the message «DESCALE».

1Important: Do not under any circum- stances use any descalers which are not recommended by AEG/Electrolux. If other descaling agents are used, AEG/ Electrolux accepts no liability for any damage. You can obtain descaling liq- uid from specialist retailers or from the AEG/Electrolux Service Line.

3The descaling process takes about

45 minutes and should not be inter- rupted. In the event of a power failure or interruption, the program must be restarted!

0Before starting the descaling program, clean the brewing unit (refer to „Cleaning the brewing unit“, page 51).

0Press the "Menu" key (Fig. 4). The menu item «CHOOSE LANGUAGE» appears.

0Press the scrolling keys "<" or ">" (Fig.

5)until the menu item «DESCALE» appears.

0Confirm the menu item with the "OK"

key (Fig. 5). The display shows «DESCALE NO».

0Press the scrolling key "<", and the dis- play shows «DESCALE YES».

0Confirm with the "OK" key (Fig. 5). The descaling program is started.

3If "OK" is not pressed, after about

120 sec. the appliance returns auto- matically to the coffee mode and the descaling program will not be started.

The upper line of the display shows the

alternating messages «ADD DESCA- LER» and «TURN STEAM KNOB»,

whilst the lower line shows an advan- cing progress bar with a percentage indication, e.g.

0Empty the water tank, fill the tank with at least 1 liter of water and add the descaling agent.

1Note: Make sure descaling agent is splashed onto surfaces sensitive to acid such as marble, limestone and ceramics.

0Place a container with a minimum capacity of 1.5 litres under the steam nozzle (Fig. 9).

0Turn the knob for steam and hot water

to the position .

The descaling program starts and the descaling solution runs out of the

steam nozzle. The display shows

«DESCALING» and an advancing progress bar with a percentage indica- tion, e.g.

The descaling programme automati- cally performs a series of flushes and pauses to remove limescale deposits from inside the coffee maker.

After approx. 45 minutes, the water tank will be empty and the upper line

of the display will show the alternating messages «DESCALE COMPLETE» and «TURN STEAM KNOB», whilst

the lower line shows a progress bar with the percentage indication

«

50%».

0Turn the knob for steam and hot water back to the position .

The machine is now ready to be rinsed with fresh water. The upper line of the

display shows the alternating messages «RINSING» and «FILL TANK», whilst the lower line shows a progress bar with the percentage indication

«50%».

0Remove the water tank and fill it with fresh water and then replace it in the
