Check Engine Oil

Checkoillevelbeforeeachoperation.Be sureoil levelismaintained.

1.Removeoilfill dipstickandwipeclean withcloth.

2.Replacedipstickwithoutscrewingitin. Removeandcheckoil level.Levelshouldbeat FULLmark.

3.

If needed,addoil slowJy-recheck.Do notoverfill.

Oil Fill/Dipstick

Installandtightendipstick.

 

Donotoverfill.Overfillingwithoil maycausethe engineto not start, hardstarting,orenginesmoking.If overthe FULLmarkonthe dipstick,drainoil to reduceoil levelto FULLmarkondipstick.

Change Engine Oil

Onlyuse highqualitydetergentoil ratedwithAPIservice classificationSF,SG, SH,orSJ. Selectthe oil'sSAEviscosity gradeaccordingtothe expectedoperatingtemperature.Referto Operationsectionfor viscositychart.

Changeengineoil afterthe first eighthoursof operation,and everyfifty hoursthereafter.

To Drain Oil

1.Drainthe fuelfromthe tankby runningthe engineuntil thefuel tankis empty.Besurethe moweris level.

2.WithengineOFFbutstillwarm,disconnectsparkplugwire and keepit awayfromsparkplug.

3.Tip themower,keepingthe aircleanerabovethe oil fill. See Figure14.

4.Removethedipstickfromthe engineandpourentireoilcontents fromthecrankcaseintoanappropriatecontainer.

5.Putthe mowerbackto itsoperatingposition(onall fourwheels).

6.Refillwithapproximately18oz. of freshoil. Fillto FULLlineon

dipstick.Donot overfill.Referto GasAndOil Fill-Upin Operation section.

7.Replaceoilfill dipstickandtighten.

8.Replacesparkplugwirebeforestarting.

Usedoil is a hazardouswasteproduct.Disposeof usedoil properly. Donotdiscardwith householdwaste.Checkwithyourlocalauthori- tiesor SearsServiceCenterfor safedisposal/recyclingfacilities.

Service Muffler

Inspectmufflerperiodically,and replaceif necessary.Replace- mentpartsfor the mufflermust bethe sameandinstalledinthe samepositionas the originalparts.

Temperatureof mufflerandnearbyengineareasmayexceed150°F (65°0).Avoidcontactwiththeseareas.

Clean Engine

Dailyor beforeeveryuse,cleangrass,chaff oraccumulated debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,andcontrolsclean. Keepareaaroundand behindmufflerfree of anycombustible debris.

Keepingenginecleanallowsair movementaroundengine.

Enginepartsshouldbe keptcleanto reducethe riskof overheat- ingand ignitionof accumulateddebris.

Do notuse waterto cleanengineparts.Watercouldcontaminatefuel system.Usea brushordry cloth.

Carburetor Adjustment

Thecarburetoronthisengine isnot adjustable.

Engine Speed

Do not tamperwiththegovernorsettingorthe carburetorsettingto increasethe enginespeed.Eachcarburetoris adjustedat the factory witheithera cap orstopplateinstalledonthe mixturescrew.Any adjustmentsmustbe performedby a Searsor otherqualifiedservice dealer.
