GAS AND OIL FILL-UP

Oil (one bottle shipped with unit)

FirstTime Use

1.Removeoil fill dipstick.

2.Withthe lawnmoweron levelground,use a funnelto emptyentire contentsof oil bottleprovidedintothe engine.

3.Replaceoil fill dipstickandtighten.

Subsequent Uses

Onlyuse highqualitydetergentoil ratedwithAPIserviceclassification SF,SG,SH,or SJ. Selectthe oil'sSAEviscositygradeaccordingto theexpectedoperatingtemperature.Followthe chartbelow.

Althoughmulti-viscosityoils (5W30,10W30,etc.)improvestarting incold weather,theywill resultinincreasedoil consumptionwhen usedabove32°E Checkyourengineoillevel morefrequentlyto avoid possibleenginedamagefromrunninglowon oil. SeeFigure9.

1.Checkthe oil levelbeforeeachoperationmakingcertainnot to rubthe dipstickalongtheinsidewallsof the oilfill tube and withoutscrewingit in.Thiswould resultina falsedipstick reading.Refillto FULLmarkon dipstick,if necessary.Capacity

is approximately18oz. Overfillingwillcausetheengineto smoke profuselyandwill resultin poorengineperformance.

2.Replaceoil fill dipstickandtighten.

3.Keepoil levelat FULL.Runningtheenginewithtoo littleoil can resultinpermanentenginedamage.

Gasolinethathasbeensittingfor anyperiodlongerthanfour weeksshouldbeconsideredstale.

3.Fillfuel tankwithclean,fresh,unleadedregulargasolineonly. Do

not usegasolinecontainingMETHANOLReplacefuelcap..

Useof alcoholblendedfuels(calledgasoholor usingethanolor methanol)canattractmoisturewhichleadsto separationandforma- tionof acidsduringstorage.Acidicgascan damagethe fuel system [of anengnewh e n storage.

Toavoidengineproblems,thefuel systemshouldbeemptiedbefore storagefor 30daysorlonger.Drainthe gas tank,startthe engine andlet it rununtilthe fuel linesandcarburetorare empty.Use freshfuel nextseason.See STORAGEInstructionsfor additional information.

Neveruseengineorcarburetorcleanerproductsinthe fuel tankor permanentdamagemayoccur.

Besurenooneotherthan theoperatoris standingnearthe lawn mowerwhilestartingengineoroperatingmower.Neverrunengine indoorsorin enclosed,poorlyventilatedareas. Engineexhaust containscarbonmonoxide,an odorlessanddeadlygas. Keephands,

feet, hairand looseclothingawayfromany movingpartson engine andlawn mower.

TO START ENGINE

1.Attach sparkplugwireand rubberbootto sparkplug.

2.Gastankshouldbeat least3/4 full beforestarting.

3.Pushprimerbutton3 times. Do not primeon hotdaysor to restart a warmengineaftera shortshutdown.See Figure10.

4.Standingbehindthe mower,depressthe bladecontroland holdit againstthe upperhandle.SeeFigure10.

5.This mowerhastwoseparatestartingsystems,electricand recoil. Electric Start: Turnignitionkeyto the rightto startthe engine. Releasethe keyaftertheenginestarts.

Recoil Start: Graspstarterhandleandpullropeout slowly untilenginereachesstartof compressioncycle(ropewill pull slightlyharderat this point). Letthe roperewindslowly.Pullrope witha rapid,continuous,full arm stroke.Keepinga firmgrip on the starterhandle,letthe roperewindslowly.
