GENERAL OPERATmON

Readthis operator'smanualcarefullyin its entiretybeforeattempting to assemblethis machine.Read,understand,and followall instructions on the machineand inthe manual(s)beforeoperation.Be completely familiarwiththe controls andthe properuse of this machinebefore operatingit. Keepthis manualin a safeplaceforfuture and regular referenceandfor orderingreplacementparts.

oThismachineis a precision pieceof powerequipment,not a plaything. Therefore,exerciseextremecaution at all times.Your unit has been designedto performonejob: to mow grass.Do notuse it for any other purpose.

oNeverallowchildren under 14years oldto operatethis machine. Children14years old and overshouldread and understandthe instruc- tions inthis manualand shouldbe trainedand supervisedby a parent. Only responsibleindividualswho are familiarwiththese rulesof safe operationshould be allowedto usethis machine.

oThoroughlyinspectthe area wherethe equipmentis to be used. Remove all stones, sticks,wire,bones, toys andotherforeignobjectswhichcould be trippedover or pickedup and thrownby the blade.Thrownobjects can causeseriouspersonalinjury.Plan your mowingpatternto avoid dischargeof materialtoward roads,sidewalks,bystandersandthe like. Also, avoiddischargingmaterialagainsta wall orobstructionwhich may causedischargedmaterialto ricochetback towardthe operator.

To helpavoidbladecontactor a thrown objectinjury,stay inoperator zone behindhandles andkeepchildren,bystanders,helpers,and petsat

oAlwayswearsafetyglassesor safetygoggles duringoperationandwhile performingan adjustmentor repairto protectyour eyes.Thrown objects which ricochetcan causeserious injuryto the eyes.

oWearsturdy, rough-soledwork shoesandclose-fittingslacksandshirts. Shirts andpantsthat coverthe arms and legs andsteel-toedshoes are recommended.Neveroperatethis machinein barefeet, sandals, slippery orlight weight(e.g.canvas) shoes.

oA missingor damageddischargecovercan causebladecontact or thrown objectinjuries.

oManyinjuriesoccuras a result ofthe mower beingpulledoverthe foot duringa fall caused byslippingortripping. Donot holdon to the mowerif you are falling;releasethe handleimmediately.

oNeverpull the mowerbacktowardyou whileyou are walking.If you must back the mowerawayfrom a wall or obstructionfirst look downand behind to avoidtrippingandthen followthese steps:

a.Step backfrom mowerto fully extendyourarms.

b.Be sureyou arewell balancedwithsure footing.

c.Pull backslowly,no morethan half waytowardsyou.

d.Repeatthesestepsas needed.

o Donotoperatethe mowerwhile underthe influenceof alcoholordrugs.

oDonotengagethe self-propelledmechanismon units so equippedwhile startingengine.

oThe blade control handleis a safetydevice.Neverattemptto bypassits operation.Doingso makesthe safetydeviceinoperativeandmayresult in personalinjurythrough contactwiththe rotatingblade. The blade control handle mustoperateeasily in bothdirectionsandautomatically returnto the disengagedpositionwhenreleased.

oNeveroperatethe mower inwet grass.Alwaysbe sureof yourfooting. A slip andfall can causeseriouspersonalinjury. Ifyou feel you are losing your footing,releasethe bladecontrol handle immediatelyandthe blade will stoprotatingwithinthree seconds.

Mowonly in daylightorgood artificiallight. Walk, neverrun. o Stopthe blade whencrossing graveldrives,walks or roads.
