Using the CD as your startup device

The procedure for starting from the CD Install Me First disc varies depending on the condition of the system software on your hard disk. To find out which procedure to use, you must turn on your Macintosh.

If you see a blinking question mark on your screen

The blinking question mark means your Macintosh is unable to find usable system software on your hard disk.

Press the Open/Close button on the front of the computer to open the tray, and remove the CD-ROM disc. Push the tray in, or press the Open/Close button, to close the tray. Restart your computer.
