Heat pumps are so extraordinarily efficient because they do not need to produce heat in order to warm pool or spa water. Rather, heat pumps simply transfer heat from the outside air into the water.

If one considers absolute “0”–the point where all heat is absent–occurs at 459º Fahrenheit below zero, it becomes evident outside air–even at the relative cool temperature of 55º Fahrenheit–still contains large amounts of heat energy.
