Manually Configuring your Router
Setting or Chan ging the Admi nistrator Pas sword
The Router ships with NO password e ntered. If you wish to add a password fo r
greater security, you can set a passwo rd here. Write down your password an d keep
it in a safe place, as you will need it if you ne ed to log in to the Router in the future .
It is also recommended that you s et a password if you plan to use the rem ote-
management feature of your Route r.
Changing the Log in Time-Out S etting
The login time-out option all ows you to set the period of time that you c an be
logged into the Router’s advanced set up interface. The timer st arts when there has
been no activity. For example, you have made s ome changes in the advance d setup
interface, then left your co mputer alone without click ing “Logout”. Assuming the
time-out is set to 10 minutes, then 10 minutes a fter you leave, the login sessi on will
expire. You will have to log in to the Router again to make any mo re changes. The
login time-out option is for se curity purposes and t he default is set to 10 minutes.
Note: Only one computer can be log ged in to the Router’s advanced setu p interface
at one time.
Setting the Ti me and Time Zon e
The Router keeps time by connectin g to a Simple Network Time Protoc ol (SNTP)
server. This allows the Router to synchr onize the system clock to the globa l
Internet. The synchronized clo ck in the Router is used to recor d the security log
and control client filtering. S elect the time zone in which you re side. If you reside
in an area that observes daylig ht saving time, then place a che ck mark in the box
next to “Daylight Savings”. The system clock m ay not update immediately. Allow at
least 15 minutes for the Router to contact t he time servers on the Inter net and get
a response. You cannot set the clock your self. You now have the option to select
a primary and a backup NTP ser ver to keep your Router’s clock sync hronized with
different NTP time server s on the Internet. Select you r desired NTP server fro m the
drop-down boxes, or simply keep it a s is.
