The ServSwitch Jr. MP can’t detect the CPU’s keyboard mode if the CPU doesn’t send “mode commands” (most CPUs that use mode 2 fall into this category) or if the CPU is already ON when you connect it to the Switch (it shouldn’t be). In these situations, the Switch tries to use the
•the CPU on that port uses mode 1 or 3,
•it uses mode 2, but the default setting of the port you want to connect it to has been changed, or
•you don’t know which mode the CPU uses or the port is set for, but the keyboard’s behavior makes you suspect that the port’s setting is wrong.
To set the keyboard mode of the currently selected port on a ServSwitch Jr. MP, press and release the left Control Key, type [M], and press the numeral key of the mode number ([1], [2], or [3]). If most or all of the CPUs you’ll be connecting to your ServSwitch Jr. MP system use a keyboard mode other than 2, you might want to change the defaults of their Switch ports at installation time. This is because when power outages occur, the Switch ports will return to their default keyboard mode when the power comes back on.
