Some DVD-RAM are unformatted. You must format these discs be- fore you can use them in this unit. Formatting also allows you to erase the entire contents of a disc.

All recordings are irretrievably erased when a disc is format- ted. Check the disc carefully before formatting to ensure it doesn’t contain any programs you want to keep.

Preparation

³Switch [DVD, TV] to “DVD”.

³Insert the disc you want to format.

1 While stopped

Press [TOP WINDOW].

2 Use the joystick [3, 4, 2, 1] to select “DISC SETTING” and press [ENTER].

3 Use the joystick [3, 4] to select “Format” and press [ENTER].

4 Use the joystick [2, 1] to select “Yes” and press [ENTER].

Formatting the Disc will erase all contents.
This will take approximately 1 minute.

5 Use the joystick [2, 1] to select “Start” and press [ENTER].

Formatting starts.

The message “Formatting is completed” appears when for- matting is finished.

ºTo stop formatting

Press [RETURN] in steps 4 and 5, or select “No” in step 4, “Cancel” in step 5 and press [ENTER].

Note

³Do not turn the unit off or disconnect the AC power supply cord while the message “Formatting the disc” is on the television. This can render the disc unusable.

(Formatting takes up to 70 minutes. You can cancel formatting if it takes more than 2 minutes by pressing [RETURN]. The disc must be reformatted if you do this.)

³All data on the disc is erased when it is formatted, including recordings made with this unit. Data written to the disc by a computer is also erased.
