Selecting the Recording Media

You can select to record your movies and photos on the built-in hard disk or on a memory card. The hard disk is the default media for recording both.

TO CHANGE THE MEDIA FOR RECORDING MOVIES

FUNC.

[ Menu] or [Rec Media for Movies] or

[Rec Media for Photos] Select the hard disk or memory card*

FUNC.

*For each media, you can check the total, used and available space. Available space is estimated based on the recording mode (movies) or photo size/quality (photos) currently in use.

Initializing the Hard Disk or Memory Card

Initialize memory cards when you use them with this camcorder for the first time. You can also initialize a memory card or the hard disk to permanently delete all the recordings it contains. Initializing the recording media also eliminates fragmentation. Fragmentation becomes more serious as recordings are repeatedly added and deleted and can eventually result in reduced performance.

Options

[Quick Initialization]

Clears the file allocation table but does not physically erase the stored data.

[Complete Initialization]

Erases all data completely. The complete initialization of the hard disk requires a longer

time ( approx. 2 hr., approx. 1 hr.).

FUNC.

[ Menu]

[Initialize / ] [HDD] or [Mem. Card] Initialization method

[Yes]* [OK]

FUNC.

*Press to cancel the complete initialization while it is in progress. All recordings will be erased and the recording media can be used without any problem.

IMPORTANT

Initializing the recording media will permanently erase all recordings. Lost original recordings cannot be recovered. Make sure you back up important recordings in advance using an external

device ( 80).

Power the camcorder using the compact power adapter to initialize the hard disk. While the initialization is in progress, do not disconnect the power source.
