The zoom can be adjusted from 36 mm to 108 mm in 35 mm film equivalent terms.

Telephoto/Wide Angle

Digital Zoom

When the LCD monitor is on, you can shoot with a combined optical and digital zoom up to approximately 12x with the DIGITAL IXUS 500 and 11x with the DIGITAL IXUS 430 (p. 62).

The digital zoom is unavailable in some modes (p. 160).

Images become coarser the more they are digitally zoomed.
