H SETTINGS

5Install a 9 volt (9V) battery in the bottom of the base unit to protect your outgoing and incoming messages, remote code and time/day setting. (See page 32.) If a 9-volt battery is installed and the battery power is low, "Lb" will flash in the display.

SWITCH SETTINGS

The TC-540 has three switches on the back of the unit and one on the side of the handset.

POWER SAVER/RINGER

ON-OFF

The TC-540 is shipped with the HANDSET RINGER SWITCH set to off. When the ringer is off, the POWER SAVER is on and battery power is conserved. Turn the handset ringer on before use. The base unit ringer is always on.

RINGER ON - When the ringer is ON, the handset will ring when an incoming call or paging signal is received. The rechargeable batteries will last up to seven days in this mode (the Power Saver Switch is OFF.)

POWER SAVER (PWR SAVER) ON - When an incoming call or a paging signal is received the handset will not ring but, all other handset functions will operate. The rechargeable batteries will last up to 2 months in this mode (the ringer is OFF.)

RINGER VOLUME

Set the RINGER VOLUME SWITCH to control the telephone ringer volume.

HI = Loud LO = Quiet

RING SELECT

The answering machine is shipped with the Ring Select Switch set to 4 rings. Set the RING SELECT SWITCH to 2, 4, or TS to select the number of rings before the TC-540 answers.

RINGS

2 = The TC-540 will answer on the second ring. 4 = The TC-540 will answer on the fourth ring. TS = When calling to retrieve messages from a remote location, Tollsaver will help

eliminate toll charges by letting you know if there are any new messages in the mailboxes before the TC-540 answers. When set to TS the TC-540 answers on:

Second ring = NEW messages Fourth ring = NO new messages

NOTE: After you have retrieved messages, (from a remote location or at the machine) tollsaver will reset to answer on the fourth ring until a new message is recorded.

TONE/PULSE

This switch configures the TC-540 to dial out with either touchtone or pulse signals to match the service supplied by your local telephone company. The TC-540 is shipped with the TONE/PULSE SWITCH in the Pulse position. If you have touchtone service, set this switch to Tone.

PULSE = for Rotary dialing or Pulse services TONE = for Touchtone service
