Introduction

This chapter gives a physical and functional overview of the DES-3224. The DES-3224 is an intelligent, managed switch, designed for use on medium sized networks as part of the backbone or for use with other switches and hubs on a larger network.

The DES-3224 has the following features:

All twenty-four ports auto-negotiate 10/100 Mbps.

The DES-3224 can be configured and customized to your network.

The DES-3224 can be managed in three ways: Local Console Management, Telnet and SNMP.

Supports Cut-through and Store-and-Forward switching.

Supports Full and Half Duplex for both 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps. .

Wire-speed packet filtering and forwarding for up to 24 ports.

Eight thousand active MAC address table entries per device with self-learning and table aging.

The DES-3224 supports SNMP for RFC 1213, RFC 1757, and RFC 1493.

VLAN support for eight broadcast domains.

Port Trunking support for bandwidth aggregation between two DES-3224 switches.

The DES-3224 is designed for management at a glance. The front panel of the, displayed in Figure 1, has LEDs that give you essential information about the DES-3224 at a glance.
