Troubleshooting the System Board
Asystem board problem can result from a defective systemboard component, a
faultypower supply, or a defectivecomponent connected to the system board. If an
errormessage indicates a system board problem, followthese steps to troubleshoot
the problem:
1. Turn offthe system, including any attachedperipherals, and disconnect the sys-
tem from its electrica l outlet.
CAUTION: See “Protecting Against Electrostatic Dischar ge” in the safety
instructions at the front of this guide.
2. Remove the computer cover.
SeeRe moving the Com puter Cover,found earlier in this chapter.
3. Reseat the DIMMs in their sockets.
SeeAd ding Memory,in Chapter 8, for instructions on removing and replacing
DIMMs.
4. Replace the computer cover,reconnect the system to the electrical outlet,and
turn on the system.
Isthe problem resolved?
Yes . Youhave fixed the problem.
No. Goto step 5.
5. Remove all expansioncards except the SCSI host adapter card and the video
expansioncard (if they are installed).
6. Replace the computer cover,reconnect the system to the electrical outlet,and
turn on the system.
7. For any ISA expansioncards, run the RCU and update the configuration
information.
