5 Replace the system-board assembly. See "Installing a System-Board
Assembly" on page 69.
6 Reconnect the system to its electrical outlet and turn on the system,
including any attached peripherals.
Processors

Removing a Processor

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a cert ified service technician. You
should only perform troubleshooting and simpl e repairs as authorized in your
product documentation, or as directed by the o nline or telephone service and
support team. Damage due to servicing that is n ot authorized by Dell is not
covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safet y instructions that came with
the product.
1 Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and
disconnect the system from its electrical outlet.
2 Remove the system-board assembly. See "Removing a System-Board
Assembly" on page 68.
3 Remove the heat sink, see "Removing the Heat Sink" on page 70.
CAUTION: The processor is held in its socket un der strong pressure. Be aware
that the release lever can spring up suddenly if not firmly grasped.
4 Position your thumb firmly over the processor socket-release lever and
release the lever from the locked position. Rotate the lever 90 degrees
upward until the processor is released from the socket. See Figure 3-8.
5 Rotate the processor shield upward and out of the way. See Figure 3-8.
6 Lift the processor out of the socket and leave the socket-release lever
up so that the socket is ready for the new processor.
CAUTION: Be careful not to bend any of the pin s on the ZIF socket when removing
the processor. Bending the pins can permanently damage t he system board.
