Connecting a DVD player and monitor TV

To connect the video output from the DVD player to the AVR-1706, you only need to choose one connection type. Component video connection offers the best quality (and is required for progressive DVD playback), followed by S-Video, while composite video offers the lowest picture quality of the three connection types. To connect the digital audio output from the DVD player, you can choose from either the coaxial or optical connections. If you choose to use the coaxial connection, it needs to be assigned. For

more information about Digital Input Assignment ( page 42).

Connect a non-DVD video disc player (such as a laser disc, VCD/SVCD, or future high definition disc player) to the DVD/VDP terminals in the same way.

Easy Setup and Operation

For best picture quality (especially with progressive DVD and other high definition sources), choose the component video connection to your monitor TV. S-Video and composite video outputs are also provided if your TV does not have component video inputs.
