50 Chapter 7 Reference
Gamma
Generally, the monitor brightness varies nonlinea rly with the input signal level, which is called “Gamma
Characteristic”. A small gamma value produces a low-contra st image, while a large gamma value
produces a highcontrast image.
HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Contents Protection)
Digital signal coding system developed to copy-protect the digital conte nts, such as video, music, etc.
This helps to transmit the digital contents sa fely by coding the digital contents sent via DVI terminal on
the output side and decoding them on the input side. Any digital conte nts cannot be reproduced if both of
the equipments on the output and input sides are not applicable to HDCP system.
Phase
Phase means the sampling timing to convert t he analog input signal to a digital signal. Phase adjustment
is made to adjust the timing. It is recommended that ph ase adjustment be made after the clock is adjusted
correctly.
Range Adjustment
Range adjustment controls the signal output levels to display every color grad ation. It is recommended
that range adjustment be made before color adjustment.
Rec709
Digital broadcasting (HDTV) sta ndards dened by the ITU-R (Inter national Telecommunication Union
Radio Communication Sector).
Resolution
The LCD panel consists of numerous pixels of specied size, which are illum inated to form images. This
monitor consists of 1920 horizontal pixels and 1200 vertical pixels. At a resolution of 1920 x 1200, all
pixels are illuminated as a full scree n (1:1).
SMPTE-C
One of the standards provided by the SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture a nd Television Engineers).
sRGB(Standard RGB)
“International Standard for Red, Gre en, and Blue color space” A color space was dened with the aim of
the color matching between applications and hardware devices, s uch as monitors, scanners, printers a nd
digital cameras. As a standard default space, sRGB allows Inter net users to closely match colors.
