Peripheral device

An external device (such as a printer or a modem) connected to a computer that depends on the computer for its operation.

Port

A physical input/output socket on a computer to which you can connect a peripheral device.

Power-on diagnostics

Tests that the computer runs to check its internal circuitry and configuration each time you turn it on.

Process ID number

A number OS/2 appends to each process it runs. When you run a process in the background, OS/2 displays its process ID number on the screen. Also called a handle.

Processor speed

Program

A file that contains coded instructions and tells a computer what to do and how to do it.

Prompt

A message the screen displays to request information or tell you what action you need to perform next. See also
