Chapter 6 Maintenance

Rev. A 6-1

6.1 OVERVIEW
This section describes the points and the procedures for maintai ning the printer in its optimum c ondi tion.

6.1.1 Cleaning

This printer has no mechanical components requiri ng regular cleaning. Therefore, the points descri bed
below are suggested to be checked for any dirt and make an appropriate cl eaning if necessary.

Never use the chemical solvents, such as thinner, to clean the printer. These chemicals can

damage the components of the printer.

Be careful not to damage the components when you attempt to c lean t he inside of the printer.

Do not scratch surface of “ROLLER, ASSEMBLY, PF”.

(Use soft brush to wipe off any dusts, or use soft cloth moistened with alcohol)

Housing: Use clean soft cloth moistened with water and wipe off any di rt. If the housing
stained with an ink, use a cloth moistened with a neutral det ergent to wipe it
off.
Inside the printer: Use a vacuum cleaner to remove any paper dust.

6.1.2 Service Maintenance

If the print irregularity (missing dot, white l i ne, etc.) has occur or the printer indicates “MAINTENANCE
ERROR”, perform the following oper at ion to clear the error.
Head Cleaning
1. The printer has a built-in head cleaning f unction and is executable from the cont rol panel.
2. Confir m that the printer is in stand-by state (the POWER indicator is not blink ing), and hold
down the cleaning button on the control panel for m ore than 3sec.
3. The printer perform the built-i n cleaning sequence. (during cleaning operation, the PO WER
indicator is blinking)
Maintenance Error Clear
Since the printer consumes the ink, not only f or printing but also for another operation li ke cleaning, certain
amount of ink are wasted. Therefore, the pri nter counts the amount of waste ink and they are collected at
the waste ink pad, and once the amount of waste ink reaches the predefi ned l imit, the printer indicat es
“MAINTENANCE ERROR” and the waste ink pad should be replaced as follows:
1. Replace the waste ink pad to new one.
2. After re-assemble the printer, turn the printer on whil e hold down the following buttons on
the control panel:
•E”LOAD/EJECT” button
•E”CLEANING” button
3. Press “LOAD/EJECT” button again while “PAPER END” indicator is blinking. This clears the
maintenance error condition and the waste ink counter value stored in EEPROM of the main
board.
