additional safety instructionsfor hammer drills
concealed items. drilling into co n-
cealed items can cause personal injury
or proper ty damage. always make sure
the area of drilling is free from i tems other
than masonry m aterial, such a s rebar,
wire mesh, water or g as pipes, electrical
conduit or wires, etc.
holding hammer drill. the ham-
mer drill produces sig nificant torqu e dur-
ing operation. to maint ain control of the
tool, always f irmly hold the grip with o ne
hand and the auxiliary handle with the
other before starting the tool and during
operation.
drill bit. if the bit is not fi rmly locked
in the chuc k, it co uld be th rown from t he
tool and cause personal injury or p roperty
damage. always make sure the bit is prop-
erly locked in the chuck and is against t he
workpiece before startin g the drill.
holding hammer drill. the ham-
mer drill produces sig nificant torqu e dur-
ing operation. to p revent injuries fr om
loss of control, always firmly hold the gr ip
with one hand and the auxili ary handle
with the other before starting the too l and
during operation.
removing bit. drill bits can become
extremely hot during operation. always
use a rag or heavy wo rk gloves to protect
your hands when removing ho t drill bits.
disconnect tool. to avoid unexpect-
ed start-up, always discon nect the drill
from power before changing bits. never
leave the tool con nected to power when
left unattended.
removing bit from ho le. if the
drill stops rotating while it is in the hole,
it could become stuck and diffi cult to
remove. always remove the bit from the
hole while it is still rotating and turn the
tool OFF just as the bit l eaves the hole.
personal protective eQu ipment
(ppe). dust and flying debris cou ld cause
respiratory, eye, or skin injuries. the noise
caused by the hamm er drill could cause
hearing lo ss over time. always wear an
approved respirator, safety glasses and
face shield, heavy work gloves and lo ng
sleeves, an d hearin g protec tion wh en
using the hammer drill.
electrical cord. to avoid elec trical
injuries or cord damage, always make
sure th e e lectrical cord of the drill and
any ex tension cords are trailing behi nd
the tool clear of the drill ing area, and kept
away from wet areas. immediately replace
cord if damaged.
rest periods. Long-term exposure to
vibration from operating the hammer dr ill
could cause hand and arm injuries. to
reduce this risk, take fr equent breaks that
are at least as long as the period of opera-
tion. Comfortably move fingers and han ds
around to increase ci rculation dur ing the
rest periods.
sparKs. sparks produced during normal
operation coul d ignite flammable materi-
als or fumes. do n ot operate the ham mer
drill near flammable materi al or fumes.
if t here are excessive sparks, stop t he
hammer drill immediate ly and resolve t he
issue before continuing.
