Clutch Pedal Freeplay
Inspect and adjust the clutch pedal freeplay at the interval specified in
the Maintenance Schedule (page 58).
INSPECTION
1. Place a ruler so it is up against the clutch
pedal arm.
2. Move the clutch pedal, and measure arm
movement until resistance is felt.
3. Freeplay distance should be 6.3 - 16.1
mm (l/4 - 5/8 inch). Adjust the freeplay
when it is 6.3 mm (l/4 inch) or less. 772CAN~CDR
ADJUSTMENT 1. From the right side, look
between the lawn tractor frame
and the mower deck. Locate
the clutch arm turnbuckle
(outboard one) and lock nuts.
The clutch arm runs along the
inner left hand side of the lawn
tractor frame. TIPCAIAA.CDR
2. The forward locking nut on the clutch arm turnbuckle is a standard
right hand thread. The rear locking nut is a left hand thread. There
are flat spots on the side of the turnbuckle for a 12 mm wrench.
3. To decrease freeplay, loosen both locknuts, and turn the
turnbuckle to shorten clutch rod.
4. To increase freeplay, loosen both the locknuts, and turn the
turnbuckle to lengthen the clutch rod.
5. If adjustments fail to bring the freeplay to within 13.0 - 16.1 mm
(l/2 - 5/8 inch) the drive belt may need to be replaced.
