Troubleshooting

Each EVM host agent computer also maintains a set of EVM Switchboard logs. These logs contain detailed information about the interaction between the EVM host agent and the EVM server. EVM Switchboard logs are useful for diagnosing mount, suspend, resume, and launch operational issues.

To prevent EVM Switchboard log files from consuming too much disk space, EVM automatically archives the existing EVM Switchboard log file and starts a new file. Archiving occurs whenever the EVM Switchboard log file size reaches 10 megabytes and whenever EVM is restarted.

Eight generations of EVM Switchboard log files are maintained. A file named sb.txt is the current log and sb7.txt is the oldest.

Host Agent Configuration Logs

Host agent configuration logs contain current host, volume, and HBA information about each EVM host agent computer. Two configuration logs exist for each host agent:

servername.host.txt log files that contain host and HBA information

servername.volume.txt log files that contain volume information

These files contain low-level information in eXtensible Markup Language (XML) format and are best understood by authorized service personnel.

Limitations and Known Issues

The information in this section can help avoid problems while using EVM.

Unable to Browse to the Management Appliance

If you are unable to browse to the Management Appliance Splash page or Account Login page, the domain name server (DNS) might not be recognizing the Management Appliance.

HP recommends rectifying this problem by inserting an “A” record (host record) and a pointer record (also known as a PTR record or a reverse lookup record) on the DNS server for the Management Appliance.

For dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) environments, set a permanent lease and reservation for the Management Appliance.

Make sure the DNS is configured for DHCP.
