An EVM suspend operation with a DButil -pre command must have a matching resume operation with a DButil -post command. The DButil -post command closes open windows and returns SQL Server 2000 to normal operation.

An EVM launch operation with a DButil -restoresns command must be followed by application of one or more transaction logs to return the database to a normal state.

Obtaining the DButil Utility

The DButil script kit and its associated Solution Guide are available for download at

www.compaq.com/products/storageworks/solutions/rapidrestoresql/scripts.html

The download includes DButil.exe, attach and detach database script files, and documentation. The solution guide Rapid Restore for SQL Server 2000 contains detailed instructions for using DButil with EVM.

Storage Availability

StorageWorks storage systems are added to an EVM network through the Element Manager for StorageWorks HSG application loaded on the Management Appliance. The Element Manager controls all storage visibility for the Management Appliance. Only StorageWorks storage systems visible to the Management Appliance can be used in an EVM job.

Presenting Raw Units

Some applications, Oracle for example, use raw disks (disks with no file system) to improve I/O performance. You can use an EVM job to present raw disks (units) to hosts.

For example, assume that a job replicates a raw unit and names the copy $BCV1. To present the raw BCV as part of the EVM job, do the following:

1.Include a Mount Unit operation for $BCV1.

2.Select or manually enter the mount operation parameters, excluding the mount point.

3.For the mount point, manually enter N/A.

NOTE: In EVM V2.0D, use of the “N/A” mount syntax is qualified only in Mount Unit operations with Sun Solaris hosts.
