IMPORTANT: HP strongly recommends installing an identical ACS or VCS version level on all HSG-based or HSV-based storage systems, respectively, in an EVM network that uses volume grouping.

A VCS snapshot license to use EVM with an HSV-based system.

EVM must find free disks on the same storage system as the source disks (a one-to-one match) for clone and snap operations of UNIX volume groups and domains that span multiple storage systems.

EVM must find adequate space in the HSV disk group when creating a BCV on an HSV-based system. The type of BCV created (fully allocated snapshot, demand allocated snapshot, or snapclone) determines the amount of free space needed. Refer to the online Help/User Guide for detailed explanations of the HSV replication operations.

NOTE: A demand allocated snapshot is also called a Vsnap.

Volume Group and Domain Configurations

The HP interpretation of volume groups and domains includes a configuration that can consist of multiple HSG-based or HSV-based storage systems and multiple units. Each volume group or domain is referenced by a single name and consists of physical volumes. A logical volume or fileset is a subset of the volume group or domain and is mountable.

NOTE: The fewer the physical volumes (units) that comprise a volume group or domain, the faster and more efficient the EVM job becomes.

IMPORTANT: EVM V2.0D does not support volume grouping in Windows 2000 or Windows NT environments.

Supported and Unsupported Volume Groups and Domains

EVM V2.0D supports any volume group or domain that has all physical volumes on an HSG-based or HSV-based storage system that EVM can access (visible through the Management Appliance).
