Effects of Stopping EVM Activities

Stopping EVM on a host computer or the Management Appliance affects the EVM network and EVM jobs. So consider the following when planning to remove EVM from a host computer:

Stopping the Management Appliance stops any EVM job running in the EVM network.

Stopping the Management Appliance stops all browser access to the EVM network.

Stopping an EVM host agent service or daemon stops any EVM job involving the EVM host agent computer.

Impacts on Affected EVM Jobs and Undo Jobs

Removing a host computer from an EVM network can negatively affect EVM jobs. Consider the following with respect to removing a computer:

Before removing the EVM host agent from a host computer, run all pending EVM undo jobs that require the computer, as desired.

Do not remove a host computer that is required in an EVM job. Removing a host computer required for an EVM job makes that job unusable.

Do not replace the Management Appliance while EVM jobs are pending. EVM job files are stored on the Management Appliance. Replacing the Management Appliance removes the EVM job files for the entire EVM network.

IMPORTANT: HP recommends periodically backing up EVM job files onto a host computer within the EVM network. See Chapter 5, beginning on page 5–24, for more information about saving and reloading an EVM network configuration.

CAUTION: Running an undo job unmounts the job BCV units and deletes the BCV data. Coordinate this activity with other operations and users that may be affected.
