8 DIGITAL 3R

When this function is set to “ON”, the Digital 3R picture system applies edge

ON

correction to the luminance signal to enhance detail.

NOTES:

 

 

Normally it is recommended to keep “DIGITAL 3R” set to “ON”.

 

Depending on the type of tape being used, picture quality may be better with

 

“DIGITAL 3R” set to “OFF”.

 

If you use the recorder as the source player for editing, be sure to set “DIGITAL 3R”

 

to “OFF” before starting.

 

 

8 POWER SAVE

When this function is set to “ON”, you can reduce the power consumption

while the recorder is turned off.

During Power Save mode ...

 

... the front display panel will be turned off.

 

... the Just Clock function ( pg. 60) does not work.

 

... the picture may be distorted momentarily when you turn on/off the recorder.

 

Power Save does not work when ...

 

... the recorder is in the Timer mode.

 

... the recorder’s power is turned off after timer-recording or Instant Timer Recording.

 

... the Automatic Satellite Programme Recording mode is engaged ( pg. 35).

 

... “L-2 SELECT” is set to “DECODER” or “SAT” ( pg. 43).

 

 

8 VIDEO STABILIZER

When this function is set to “ON”, you can automatically correct vertical

ON

vibration in the picture when playing back unstable recordings made on

OFF

another recorder.

 

NOTES:

 

When you finish viewing a tape, be sure to set this function to “OFF”.

 

Regardless of the setting, this function has no effect during recording and during

 

special effects playback.

 

The on-screen display may jitter vertically when this function is set to “ON”.

 

To watch recordings with close-caption, set this function to “OFF”.

 

Video Stabilizer and Digital TBC/NR cannot be used at the same time. If you activate

 

Digital TBC/NR when “VIDEO STABILIZER” is set to “ON”, Video Stabilizer will be

 

automatically turned “OFF”.

 

 

8 S-VHS

Your recorder can record in S-VHS (Super VHS), S-VHS ET or VHS.

ON

To record in S-VHS:

OFF

Set “S-VHS” to “ON”. Then, insert a cassette marked “S-VHS”. The S-VHS

 

 

indicator lights up on the front display panel.

 

The S-VHS recording mode is selected.

 

To record in S-VHS ET on a VHS cassette:

 

See “Super VHS ET (S-VHS ET)” on page 26.

 

To record in VHS:

 

Insert a cassette marked “VHS”.

 

Press S-VHS ET on the recorder. You can check the current setting (“S-VHS ET

 

: ON” or “S-VHS ET : OFF”). If “S-VHS ET : ON” appears on the TV screen,

 

press S-VHS ET again in about 5 seconds to set it to “OFF”.

 

The VHS recording mode is automatically selected regardless of the “S-VHS”

 

mode setting.

 

To record in VHS on an S-VHS cassette:

 

Insert a cassette marked “S-VHS”. The S-VHS indicator lights up on the front

 

display panel. Then, set “S-VHS” to “OFF”. The S-VHS indicator goes off.

 

The VHS recording mode is selected.

 

NOTE:

 

When playing back a tape that has been recorded in S-VHS or S-VHS ET, the S-VHS

 

indicator lights up on the front display panel regardless of the “S-VHS” mode setting.
