When “SUPERIMPOSE” is set to "ON", the search speed will be shown on the TV screen for approx. 5 seconds.

The TimeScan search speed is the same for SP and EP recordings.

Picture may be distorted at the position where the recording speed is switched or when you change the search speed.

During high-speed picture search on a tape containing both SP and EP recordings, the search speed will change automatically to 7x normal playback speed when the recording tape speed switches from EP to SP.

Depending on the tape in use, noise may appear or the upper part of the picture may be distorted.

Picture may appear distorted in comparison to normal playback.

In TimeScan mode there will be a time lag between the video and the audio, and noise may appear in the audio signal.

TimeScan sound quality will differ in comparison to normal playback.

When material such as music videos where there is non-stop sound (very few breaks in the soundtrack) are viewed at 2x normal speed, the audio playback may be faster than normal.

When the playback direction is reversed, it takes approximately 6 seconds until sound is heard.

±1/3x slow motion playback is possible with SP recordings only.

Sound may not be clear during forward slow motion playback.

Noise may not be reduced completely during Pro Slow. When this happens, try manual tracking ( pg. 25).

Sounds reproduced by the TimeScan function

The sounds reproduced by the TimeScan function do not synchronize with pictures played back on the TV screen, becomes monaural, and differ from the ones you hear during normal playback.

During picture search, the TimeScan function skips sounds intermittently to keep up with the pictures played back (except 1.5x picture search).

During 1.5x picture search, all audio signals are reproduced (the audio playback speed will be 1.5 times normal speed).

Playback tape

1 2 3 4 5

Sound of 1, 3 and 5 is heard. Sound of 2 and 4 is not heard.

If you do not want to hear sounds during picture search with the TimeScan function, set “TIMESCAN AUDIO” to “OFF”. ( pg. 60).

How to use the SHUTTLE ring on the Remote

1Press JOG/SHUTTLE so that the JOG/SHUTTLE lamp lights.

2Turn the SHUTTLE ring fully to the right or to the left. When you release the ring, a still picture appears.

If you turn the ring fully and release it within 1 second, picture search continues.

NOTE:

The operations by the SHUTTLE ring on the Remote do not activate the TimeScan function; noise will appear on the screen and audio will not be output.

HR-S9900U specifications

The JVC HR-S9900U is a high-end VCR that exemplifies advanced technology and design, catering to avid collectors and home theater enthusiasts alike. Introduced in the late 1990s, this model stands out for its impressive array of features, making it a sought-after device for those who appreciate high-quality video playback and recording.

One of the defining characteristics of the HR-S9900U is its S-VHS (Super VHS) capability, which significantly enhances the resolution and quality of recorded tapes. This technology allows for a sharper and more detailed image compared to standard VHS, making it ideal for preserving home videos and important recordings. The VCR also supports S-VHS ET, which enables the playback of S-VHS tapes in standard VHS players, ensuring compatibility across different formats.

The HR-S9900U features dual playback heads, which improve the tracking accuracy and overall picture quality. This dual-head design not only enhances the clarity of the video but also minimizes artifacts like noise and distortion commonly found in conventional VHS playback. Coupled with advanced digital noise reduction technology, the VCR produces cleaner and clearer images even on older tapes.

Another key highlight of the HR-S9900U is its extensive editing functionalities. It includes features such as high-speed search and frame advance, which allow users to edit and create their own compilations with precision. Additionally, the model is equipped with the "Jog Shuttle" control for precise frame-by-frame navigation, making it easier to find and cut specific moments when editing.

The build quality of the HR-S9900U deserves mention; it features a solid construction that provides durability and a professional feel. The user-friendly interface is complemented by a remote control, which adds convenience for managing playback and recording settings from a distance.

In terms of connectivity, the JVC HR-S9900U includes multiple input and output ports such as S-Video, Composite Video, and Audio outputs. This versatility allows users to connect to various display devices, ensuring compatibility with modern televisions and audio systems.

Overall, the JVC HR-S9900U is a remarkable example of video recording technology from its era. With its S-VHS capabilities, dual-head design, and thoughtful editing features, it remains a valuable option for enthusiasts who value video fidelity and functionality in their home recording systems. Whether preserving cherished memories or curating a video library, the HR-S9900U continues to deliver exceptional performance.
