Turn on the VCR and the TV, and select the VCR channel 3 or 4 (or AV mode) on the TV.

With this VCR, you can enjoy special effect playback such as high-speed search, variable-speed search, and still playback and so on.

During special effect playback, the TimeScan function enables this VCR to reproduce noiseless pictures and sounds. It is also possible not to reproduce sounds during picture search by setting “TIMESCAN AUDIO” to “OFF”. ( pg. 60)

A Locating particular scene

rapidly — Picture Search

Possible during normal playback or still picture playback.

You can rapidly locate a particular scene on the tape.

On the front panel:

To do forward picture search, turn the TIME SCAN SHUTTLE ring fully to the right. (Even if you release the ring, picture search continues.)

To do reverse picture search, turn the TIME SCAN SHUTTLE ring fully to the left. (Even if you release the ring, picture search continues.)

To resume normal playback, press PLAY ( 3 ).

On the Remote:

To do forward picture search, press FF ( ).

To do reverse picture search, press REW ( ).

If you press and hold the button for more than 2 seconds, simply releasing it cancels the picture search, and normal playback resumes.

You can also use the SHUTTLE ring on the Remote. However, in this case, the TimeScan function is not activated. When using SHUTTLE ring, see page 37.

To resume normal playback, press PLAY ( 3 ).

NOTES:

The search speed is 7 times normal playback speed for SP recordings, and 21 times normal for EP recordings.

TimeScan will be automatically engaged during high-speed search on a tape recorded in the SP mode.

If the recorded tape speed changes from SP to EP during high- speed search, the TimeScan mode will change to EP search mode.

During high-speed search on a tape recorded in the EP mode,

pressing FF ( ) or REW ( ) for the opposite direction or turning the TIME SCAN SHUTTLE ring on the front panel to the opposite direction changes it to 7x-speed TimeScan search. ( pg. 37)
