Thissectionprovidesinformationabouttherecoverysolutionsprovidedonyourcomputer.
AWindowsrecoveryimageispreinstalledintherecoverypartitiononyourcomputer.TheWindowsrecovery
imageenablesyoutorefreshyourcomputer,orresetyourcomputertothefactorydefaultsettings.
YoucancreaterecoverymediaasbackupsorreplacementfortheWindowsrecoveryimage.Withthe
recoverymedia,youcantroubleshootandxtheproblemsonyourcomputerevenifyoucannotstartthe
Windows8.1operatingsystem.Itisrecommendedthatyoucreaterecoverymediaasearlyaspossible.For
moreinformation,see“Creatingandusingrecoverymedia”onpage56.

Refreshingyourcomputer

Ifyourcomputerdoesnotperformwellandtheproblemmightbecausedbyarecentlyinstalledprogram,
youcanrefreshyourcomputerwithoutlosingyourpersonallesorchangingyoursettings.
Attention:Ifyourefreshyourcomputer,theprogramsthatcamewithyourcomputerandtheprogr amsthat
youinstalledfromWindowsStorewillbereinstalled,butallotherprogramswillberemoved.
Torefreshyourcomputer,dothefollowing:
1.Moveyourpointertothetop-rightorbottom-rightcornerofthescreentobringupthecharms.Click
Settings➙ChangePCsettings➙Updateandrecovery➙Recovery.
2.IntheRefreshyourPCwithoutaffectingyourlessection,clickGetstarted.
3.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentorefreshyourcomputer.

Resettingyourcomputertothefactorydefaultsettings

Ifyouwanttorecycleyourcomputerorjuststartover,youcanresetyourcomputertothefactorydefault
settings.Resettingthecomputerwillreinstalltheoperatingsystem,reinstallalltheprogramsthatcamewith
yourcomputer,andresetallthesettingstothefactorydefaultsettings.
Attention:Ifyouresetthecomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,allyourpersonallesandsettingswillbe
deleted.Toavoiddataloss,makeabackupcopyofallthedatathatyouwanttokeep.
Toresetyourcomputertothefactorydefaultsettings,dothefollowing:
1.Moveyourpointertothetop-rightorbottom-rightcornerofthescreentobringupthecharms.Click
Settings➙ChangePCsettings➙Updateandrecovery➙Recovery.
2.IntheRemoveeverythingandreinstallWindowssection,clickGetstarted.ThenclickNextto
conrmtheoperation.
3.Dependingonyourneeds,dooneofthefollowing:
•Toperformaquickformat,clickJustremovemylestostarttheprocess.Theprocesswilltake
severalminutes.
•Toperformacompleteformat,clickFullycleanthedrivetostarttheprocess.Theprocesswill
takeseveralhours.
4.F ollowtheinstructionsonthescreentoresetyourcomputertothefactorydefaultsettings.
